Dubai Police has warned residents about an increase in online begging scams and urged the public to remain cautious, especially during Ramadan.
Authorities say professional beggars and fraudsters in Dubai often exploit people’s generosity during the holy month. Residents are advised to donate Zakat and charity only through officially authorized charitable organizations.
Police also warned that individuals involved in online begging can face up to three months in prison and a fine of Dh10,000.
Officials further urged the public to ignore suspicious donation appeals circulating on websites and social media platforms and to report any suspicious activity to authorities immediately.
Charitable giving increases during Ramadan in the United Arab Emirates, making it easier for scammers to target donors. Authorities, therefore, advise residents to stay vigilant and donate responsibly.
