Deadline Announced for Motorcyclists to Get M-Tag in Islamabad

The district administration has launched the second phase of the motorcycle e-tag, or M-Tag, campaign to enhance security in the federal capital.

According to the Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department, authorities have set February 28 as the deadline for motorcycle owners to install M-Tags under new monitoring measures.

Director General Excise Irfan Memon said owners can register their motorcycles and get M-Tags installed until February 28, after which strict enforcement will begin. From March 1, authorities will impound motorcycles without M-Tags, and riders will not be allowed to operate untagged motorcycles within Islamabad.

Officials said more than 2,000 motorcycles have received M-Tags during the second phase of the campaign. To facilitate citizens, M-Tag centers will remain open on holidays, and the department has deployed additional staff at registration centers to manage the increased workload.

The administration recently made electronic tagging mandatory due to security concerns. Authorities say the system will improve monitoring, enhance security, and help reduce crime in the city. Citizens have been urged to comply with the new requirement.

  • Irfan Memon doesnt have anything better to do except coming up with money making schemes for the government. Why M Tag for bikes? Whats the use of Excise registration?

  • Dear Sir,
I want to draw your attention on the subject.
Problems for the people’s having motorcycles.
This is holy month of Ramadan.
Last date for MTAG is 28 Feb. 2026.
    No online app for MTAG.
No separate qué for senior citizens.
People at the age of 60 puls are standing hours in the MTAG que’s.

    UNSAFE ON MOTORBIKES
In cars MTAG is safe as it is affixed on the wind screen while on motorbike it is affixed on headlight which is very unsafe one can remove the same easily when parked in market or even in parking then one have to go for the new one evere time when someone removed the MTAG.

    Suggestions.
There must be online registration of MTAG in one network app.
People registered through app and collect the MTAG at there convenience.
There must be sperate qué for senior citizens over 60 or 65 years old for there ease
Last date must be enhanced for ease of people.
When bike is registered for MTAG there is no need for physical need in front of the bike the same can be checked from the individual or from the app by giving CNIC or registration no.
There must be other mean to check whether the bike is registered on MTAG or not.
Physical appearance is only for toll plazas which are only on motorway’s and bikes are not allowed on motorway’s.

    Regards

    M Akhter Nadeem
    Senior citizen.

  • How come this date be fixed without increasing number of issuing location and man-power to
    meet the target date.
Infact it is all set to challan thousands of motorcyclists and collect money.
    Just a funny decision.
Pls reconsider for a positive response for a real cause.
