CM Punjab to Lay Foundation for Faisalabad Orange Line After Eid

The Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA) has finalized preparations to launch 27 metro buses and two trams on the 21.3 kilometer Orange Line corridor from Faisal Town on Jaranwala Road to Tahirpura on Jhang Road.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif will lay the foundation stone for the project after Eid-ul-Fitr. PMTA Member and former Punjab chief secretary Captain (Retd) Zahid Saeed shared the update while chairing a meeting with Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar.

He confirmed that authorities approved PC-1 for the project at an estimated cost of Rs 80 billion. The plan includes construction of 21 stations, two depots and six U-turns along the route. Zahid Saeed said the metro and tram service will provide daily transport to thousands of commuters across the city.

He directed departments to ensure strict safety arrangements at construction sites and prepare alternative traffic plans to maintain smooth vehicle movement. He also instructed WASA, FESCO, Sui Northern Gas, Parks and Horticulture Authority, Municipal Corporation, Traffic Police and PTCL to complete surveys and submit demand notices for utility relocation within 10 days.

Deputy Commissioner Captain (Retd) Nadeem Nasir and representatives of the Mass Transit Authority attended the meeting.
