Good Transporters Warn of Nationwide Strike After Eid

Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan has strongly criticized the recent increase in petroleum prices and warned that transporters may announce a nationwide strike after Eid.

In a statement, Awan said transporters nationwide have condemned the rise in fuel prices. He noted that over the past two months, diesel prices have increased by Rs. 23–24 per liter, while petrol prices have gone up by Rs. 13 per liter.

Despite the increase during the holy month of Ramadan, he said transporters did not raise fares.

Awan stated that higher fuel prices affect not only transporters but every citizen, as they lead to broader inflation. According to him, both the federal government and the Punjab government are putting transporters in a difficult position through these price increases.

He also recalled that transporters previously observed a 10-day nationwide strike due to what he described as flawed policies. Awan further alleged that agreements reached with the government have not been implemented.

He said transporters will hold consultations with stakeholders across Pakistan before making a final decision regarding a countrywide strike after Eid.
