Construction work on Swat Motorway Phase II has officially begun in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi announced during a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar.
He said the project would improve connectivity in the region and support economic activity as well as tourism in Swat and nearby areas.
Phase II of the motorway will span about 80 kilometers, running from the Chakdara Interchange to Fatehpur. According to officials, the project includes the construction of nine interchanges and seven bridges over the Swat River.
During the meeting, participants also discussed development initiatives in the Malakand region and proposals for the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2026-27. Infrastructure upgrades, improvements in education and health facilities, and expansion of communication networks were among the priorities discussed.
The chief minister directed officials to address pending issues in Provincial Transmission Line Phase II to ensure full utilization of hydropower projects in the province.
He also instructed authorities to accelerate work on Shaheed Arshad Sharif University of Investigative and Modern Journalism, move forward with the Livestock University project, and complete the Engineering University under the DF&C scheme.
