KP Police Establishes Pakistan’s First UAV Division

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have set up what they are calling Pakistan’s first dedicated Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Division, becoming the first provincial force to formally create a specialized unit focused on drone-based support for security operations.

According to official details, the move positions KP Police ahead of other provincial forces in institutionalizing the use of advanced UAV technology.

The division has been launched as a dedicated structure rather than an ad-hoc drone capability, marking a shift toward more organized deployment and oversight of aerial surveillance tools.

To regulate how the unit will operate, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been issued by the Central Police Office (CPO).

These SOPs are intended to set the framework for operational control, coordination, and the use of UAVs during policing and security-related activities.

Officials also say that, following the division’s establishment, ground control stations have been activated in multiple districts across the province. With district-level infrastructure now in place, UAV operations can be managed locally while remaining aligned with the broader guidelines issued from the center.

KP Police describe the initiative as a major step toward modernizing law enforcement through technology, and an example other regions can potentially follow as drone use expands in public safety and security operations.
