The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced new eligibility criteria for Pakistani students planning to pursue medical education abroad.
According to the council, students seeking foreign medical education must obtain at least 60% marks in FSc Pre-Medical or an equivalent qualification.
They must also score at least 50% in the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) conducted in Pakistan.
PMDC stated that students enrolling in foreign medical institutions must complete the council’s mandatory online registration. After completing this registration, graduates will be eligible to sit for the National Registration Examination (NRE) in Pakistan to practice as doctors.
The council clarified that these requirements have been made mandatory under the PMDC Act 2022 to obtain temporary registration and to appear in the NRE.
In addition, PMDC said that foreign medical graduates must ensure their institutions are approved by the relevant regulatory authority abroad and are also recognized by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
Students have been advised to verify the accreditation status of foreign institutions on the ECFMG website before seeking admission and to consult the PMDC website for further guidance.
