The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has warned that several universities are offering unrecognized postgraduate medical and dental programs, directing institutions to immediately discontinue such courses.
In a public notice, the council said the listed universities have been awarding postgraduate degrees and diplomas to MBBS and BDS doctors without fulfilling mandatory accreditation requirements under Section 25 of the PM&DC Act, 2022.
The institutions named in the notice include Times University Multan, NUR International University Lahore, Gomal University D.I. Khan, Sohail University Karachi, Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur, Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology Rahim Yar Khan, University of Faisalabad, University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Hazara University Mansehra, and Kohat University of Science and Technology.
The PM&DC stated that any institution seeking recognition to offer postgraduate medical or dental qualifications must follow the prescribed procedure before launching such programs.
It further said that Section 34 of the PM&DC Act, 2022 prohibits institutions from offering or operating medical and dental training programs without prior recognition, and also bars universities from affiliating with unrecognized programs.
The council directed all universities to immediately halt unrecognized postgraduate programs, warning that no institution is allowed to advertise, launch, or conduct such courses without formal approval. It added that trainees currently enrolled in these programs will not be considered, and their qualifications will not be registered by the PM&DC.
