Motorway Police have rejected reports claiming that modern cameras were recently stolen from a 200-kilometer stretch of the Sukkur-Multan Motorway (M-5), calling the matter baseless and misleading.
According to Syed Imran Ahmed, Spokesperson for the Central Region, the ITS surveillance cameras installed on the motorway were not stolen in any recent incident. He said the cameras had been removed by the relevant administration itself.
He added that the One Network administration had taken this step in December 2023 on security and administrative grounds.
The spokesperson said the reports currently being circulated are presenting an old matter as a recent development, even though it has no connection with the actual facts.
He further said that alternative and effective monitoring arrangements are already in place on the motorway.
The clarification comes after reports claimed that surveillance cameras, speed cameras, solar panels, lights, and poles had been stolen from the Sukkur to Rahim Yar Khan section of the motorway. However, the Motorway Police spokesperson has said the reports of recent theft are unfounded.

i myself was surprised to see poles without speed cameras and solar installations on this said area both sides. and yet to see a lame excuse, instead tells us where is that costly equipment and why it is removed in auch specific area.
No commuter travel after sunsets from Sakhar to RYK. Motorway police and local staff Sindh police is totally helpless. It blatant reality even pickits of Sindh police are unsafe. Side iron fence, green fibre deflectors are stolen. To whome you are deceiving and throughing dust in eyes. Shame on you for misleading.
