Former Bangladesh Captain Appointed BCB President

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been appointed president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) after the government dissolved the board led by Aminul Islam.

The move came after a five-member investigation committee reviewed allegations linked to the BCB elections held in October last year and submitted its findings to the government.

At 37, Tamim Iqbal becomes the youngest president in the board’s history. He will head an 11-member ad-hoc committee formed to run the board after the shake-up. The panel includes former Bangladesh captain Minhajul Abedin and ex-cricketer and commentator Athar Ali Khan.

The government announced the decision after presenting the investigation committee’s findings at a press briefing. Officials said the previous board had not been formed properly and was unable to function effectively.

The change comes after weeks of pressure on the BCB, with the sports ministry questioning the legitimacy of the last election and raising concerns over the national team’s absence from the recent T20 World Cup, along with allegations of political interference and favoritism.

The crisis had already deepened in recent days, with four directors stepping down last week. That pushed the number of resignations from the board to six since January.

Tamim now takes charge at a turbulent moment for Bangladesh cricket, with the ad-hoc setup expected to stabilize the board after months of internal unrest.
