Mohsin Naqvi on Monday directed authorities to swiftly transform Islamabad into a “Smart City Model”, as the government accelerates work on the second phase of the Islamabad Safe City Project.
The decision was taken during a special meeting chaired by the interior minister at the Safe City Headquarters, where officials reviewed progress on Phase II of the project.
Authorities informed the meeting that about 75 percent of the work has already been completed, and the remaining work is expected to be finished by May 30.
Naqvi directed officials to ensure the project meets the deadline, stressing that all available resources should be used to strengthen security and modernize the capital.
Command and control system to be upgraded
As part of the initiative, the Central Command and Control System in Islamabad will be upgraded.
The system will integrate policing, traffic management, and citizen services, enabling authorities to manage urban operations more efficiently.
Officials said the smart city model will also introduce modern technology for traffic monitoring and crime control, aimed at improving public safety and city management.
New design for Safe City headquarters approved
During the meeting, authorities also approved a new design for the Safe City Headquarters, which will serve as the operational hub for the advanced surveillance and monitoring systems.
Ali Nasir Rizvi briefed the interior minister on the project’s progress.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Khurram Agha, Dr Usman Anwar, and Haroon Joiya.
