Karachi Airport to Undergo Major Expansion

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has prepared a comprehensive expansion plan for Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, allocating Rs. 100 billion for a major development project to meet rising passenger demand and future capacity needs.

Under the proposed project, both the international and domestic terminal buildings will be expanded, while a new terminal building will also be constructed as part of the large-scale upgrade.

The plan has been designed with a 50-year outlook, taking into account future needs related to passenger traffic, cargo operations, and business activity.

The expansion will also include the development of a modern cargo village and an international-standard cargo section to enhance the airport’s capacity and operational efficiency, along with several additional facilities.

According to sources, the PAA administration has already accelerated work on the project, marking a significant step toward transforming the country’s busiest airport.

  • With regard to growing residential development around airport where security measures are essential including block road for traffic decision should be take to move airport from this location to some where else.

  • Karachi Airport now sits inside city limits and is not safe as per rules and has experienced catastrophic accident over the adjacent civilian housing. Karachi Airport should be moved outside the city limits.

    • Move it to near the highways between commander city and bahria town. That would be better.

  • Sadly Karachi Airport traffic reduced in last 25- years, current international flight bays are empty mostly durung the day.. It has ME airlines that has filled airport buisness… How come justification for Karachi Airport expansion when focus has shifted to Islamabad and Lahore airport
