The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved seven development projects worth Rs. 24.385 billion under the Uraan Pakistan initiative to strengthen key sectors and support economic growth.
The approved projects cover multiple sectors, including education, health, governance, physical planning and housing, and environment.
These initiatives align with the government’s broader agenda to strengthen human capital, modernize governance, improve infrastructure, and promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth under the Uraan Pakistan initiative.
In the environment sector, the project titled “Air Quality Monitoring Network for Air Quality Management Improvement in Sindh,” worth Rs. 1,418.400 million, was conditionally approved.
In the governance sector, the project “Strengthening of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK)” worth Rs. 1,981.650 million was approved, with a condition to rationalize ammunition costs.
Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives and Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Ahsan Iqbal highlighted the importance of this project in improving counter-terrorism capacity and addressing security challenges in the region.
Two education projects were also reviewed. The revised project “Establishment of Daanish School in ICT Kuri,” worth Rs. 6,996.586 million, was approved strictly on the Prime Minister’s directions, with approval limited to the girls’ hostel component.
The second education project, “Establishment of Daanish School at Sindh (Tandoo Muhammad Khan),” worth Rs. 3,693.836 million, was approved with directions to align costs with other Daanish School projects.
In the health sector, the revised “Sindh Health Support Program,” worth Rs. 2,266.997 million, was approved. The project will be primarily funded by the World Bank with Rs. 2,100.539 million, while the Government of Sindh will contribute Rs. 166.458 million.
Ahsan Iqbal emphasized that health remains a key pillar of the government’s development agenda under the Uraan Pakistan initiative.
Two projects in the physical planning and housing sector were also approved. These include the “Construction of Federal Tribunals/Courts Complex at Hayatabad, Peshawar,” worth Rs. 628.816 million, and the “Construction of Model Prison H-16 Islamabad,” worth Rs. 7,399.120 million.
The approvals aim to strengthen development across sectors, improve public services, and support long-term economic growth in the country.
