Pakistan Crowned ‘Global Peacekeeper’ After Stopping Iran From Bombing Israel

Pakistan played a key last-minute diplomatic role in preventing the Middle East ceasefire from collapsing as Iran was very close to responding to continued Israeli strikes on Lebanon, international media reported today.

According to Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh, Tehran was on the verge of reacting to what it viewed as a violation of the ceasefire late last night. He said Pakistan stepped in at a critical moment and conveyed messages that the United States would ensure Israel exercised restraint.

Khatibzadeh said the coming hours remained highly sensitive and stressed that any sustainable peace arrangement in the region must also include Lebanon. He added that Pakistan’s intervention helped de escalate tensions at a moment when the risk of renewed conflict was rising sharply.

The development also exposed differences in how the ceasefire terms are being interpreted. Pakistani and Iranian officials have maintained that Lebanon was included as part of the truce framework. However, US and Israeli officials have said that Lebanon was not covered under the agreement.

US Vice President JD Vance described the issue as a “legitimate misunderstanding,” saying Iran believed the ceasefire extended to Lebanon, while Washington had not agreed to those terms.

Pakistan’s role in relaying urgent diplomatic messages at the eleventh hour appears to have helped prevent a fresh escalation and preserved the fragile ceasefire, at least for now.
