Punjab Plans Test for MPhil and PhD Teachers

The Punjab government has decided to introduce a test for MPhil and PhD-qualified teachers working in public schools across the province.

Under the plan, those who qualify will be posted to high and higher secondary schools. Officials said teachers assigned to these schools will also receive additional allowances along with existing benefits.

As part of the arrangement, primary and middle schools will be staffed by Primary School Teachers (PSTs) and Elementary School Teachers (ESTs).

The decision comes amid the outsourcing of primary and middle schools, following which highly qualified teachers will be shifted to higher-level institutions.

Authorities said a large number of MPhil and PhD teachers were not being utilized according to their qualifications. More than 1,800 teachers across Punjab hold MPhil and PhD degrees.
