Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has signaled Tehran’s true position following the latest round of negotiations in Islamabad. He said Iran entered talks with goodwill but doesn’t trust the United States after years of war and deception.
In a detailed thread posted on X, Ghalibaf said Iran approached negotiations with “good faith and will,” yet the legacy of two previous wars and past diplomatic failures prevented them from placing confidence in the opposing side.
He said Iranian negotiators presented forward-looking proposals during the discussions, but the other side ultimately failed to convince Tehran that its commitments could be trusted. He said the responsibility has now shifted to the United States to demonstrate whether it can rebuild credibility.
Ghalibaf framed diplomacy not as an alternative to military strength but as a parallel strategy. He emphasized that Iran would continue efforts to preserve its achievements gained during the recent forty days of the Gulf War.
The Iranian speaker described Iran as a nation of 90 million people who rallied behind their leaders and publicly supported the country during a period of heightened tensions. He thanked citizens for backing the state and praised Pakistan for arranging the intense 21-hour dialogue.
By publicly tying diplomacy to military resilience and national mobilization, Ghalibaf has quietly confirmed that future talks will hinge less on technical agreements and more on rebuilding trust.

We don’t trust our own govt or trump either.
The US did start this with treachery, even negotiating is odd.
