New Rule Announced for Bikes, Buses and Rickshaws on Shahrah-e-Faisal

Karachi Traffic Police have announced a new lane management plan for Shahrah-e-Faisal under which motorbikes, buses and rickshaws will be restricted to designated lanes, while violators will face fines through the city’s e-ticketing system.

DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah said the initiative aims to improve traffic flow and introduce structured lane discipline on one of Karachi’s busiest roads.

According to the plan, motorbikes, rickshaws, buses and other light transport vehicles, including Mazdas, will be required to use the two left-side lanes on Shahrah-e-Faisal.

Traffic police officials said the remaining lanes, depending on the road section, will be reserved for faster-moving vehicles such as cars and double-cabin vehicles.

Authorities said a month-long awareness campaign will begin before formal enforcement starts on June 1 to help commuters understand the new rules.

DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah said the system will initially be implemented on Shahrah-e-Faisal because surveillance cameras and enforcement infrastructure are already available there.

Traffic police officials added that e-challans will be issued through the existing camera network to drivers violating lane restrictions. According to the traffic police, fines for lane violations have been fixed at Rs. 2,500 for motorbikes and rickshaws, while buses will face fines of Rs. 7,500.
