Another suspected case of mpox has been reported at Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH), Bahawalpur, where the patient has been shifted to an isolation ward.
According to hospital officials, the patient is a resident of Bahawalpur and a relative of the first mpox patient admitted to BVH. The same earlier patient was also linked to the infection of a BVH staff nurse, who had previously tested positive for the virus.
The hospital administration has not disclosed the patient’s name. His samples have been sent to a laboratory in Lahore, while the test results are still awaited.
If confirmed positive, this would become the third probable mpox case linked to the hospital.
BVH Coordinator Dr. Muhammad Rizwan confirmed that the patient was admitted after being identified as a relative of the first mpox patient. He said the samples were dispatched to Lahore on Friday, and the results were expected by Monday.
Meanwhile, the staff nurse who had earlier contracted mpox and was placed in home isolation has been moved back to BVH’s isolation ward. Dr. Rizwan said the nurse had recovered and was requesting discharge from isolation.
However, he added that she would remain at the hospital until the completion of the mandatory 21-day isolation period, even after recovery.
