The government has decided to increase the quarterly payment under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) to Rs. 18,000 from the next fiscal year, providing additional financial support to low income families across the country.
The announcement was made by BISP Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid, who said the program remains a key source of economic support and financial empowerment for vulnerable households. She also criticized what she described as negative propaganda against the initiative.
According to the chairperson, the enhanced payment will take effect from the upcoming fiscal year as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen social protection measures for deserving families.
She further announced that all BISP payments will be made through digital wallets from July, marking a major shift in the program’s disbursement mechanism. The move is aimed at improving transparency, efficiency, and ease of access for beneficiaries.
The Benazir Income Support Program is Pakistan’s largest social safety net initiative and provides financial assistance to millions of low income households. The increase in quarterly payments comes amid rising living costs and growing demand for social welfare support.
