Govt Sets 4% Growth Target, Inflation Projected at 8.2%

The federal government’s annual development plan for the upcoming fiscal year has set a gross domestic product (GDP) growth target of 4% while projecting inflation at 8.2%, according to official documents.

Sector-wise targets include 3.8% growth for agriculture and 4.5% for industry, with overall investment projected at 15% of GDP.

On the external front, exports are projected at $32.9 billion, while services exports are estimated at $11.3 billion. Imports are expected to reach $70 billion, and remittances are projected at $42.4 billion in the next fiscal year.

The plan also outlines major development priorities across energy, transport, water, health, and education sectors.

In the power and water sector, Rs. 26 billion has been allocated for the Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project and Rs. 21 billion for the Dasu Hydropower Project. The Karachi Bulk Water Supply Project has been assigned Rs. 10 billion.

Transport infrastructure includes Rs. 100 billion for the N-25 Quetta project, Rs. 30 billion for the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway, and Rs. 25 billion for the ML-1 railway upgrade. The Sindh Coastal Highway and Mehran Highway have been allocated Rs. 25 billion and Rs. 21 billion respectively.

In social development, Rs. 22 billion has been earmarked for Daanish Schools, while Rs. 3 billion has been set aside for the Prime Minister’s Health Program.

Environmental targets include a plan to plant 11.3 million trees during the year.

The plan also sets an addition target of 3,787 megawatts to the national power grid, with Rs. 151 billion allocated under the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) for the energy sector.

For water resources, Rs. 74.92 billion has been allocated under PSDP. Water availability is targeted to rise from 63.5 million acre-feet to 84.2 million acre-feet, while storage capacity is expected to increase from 13.5 million to 23.5 million acre-feet.
