Samsung could introduce major changes with the Galaxy S27 Ultra in early 2027, as Apple is reportedly preparing major upgrades for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max later this year.
A new rumor claims that Samsung is planning three important changes for its next Ultra flagship. These could address long-running complaints about the camera setup, battery capacity, and wireless charging support.
Samsung has already been rumored to remove the 3x telephoto camera from the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The 3x telephoto unit has faced criticism, especially as Samsung kept it on the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
According to yeux1122’s blog, the 5x periscope zoom camera offers better image quality and improved stability when capturing more detailed shots.
Removing the 3x camera could also free up internal space inside the phone.
The freed internal space could help Samsung increase the battery capacity of the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
The rumor claims that the phone may finally move beyond the 5,000 mAh battery limit.
Samsung could still continue using lithium-ion battery technology, though silicon-carbon batteries may become important in the future as Chinese rivals continue improving battery capacity.
The company could also use the money saved from not moving to silicon-carbon battery research and development for better software optimization, helping the Galaxy S27 Ultra last longer on a charge.
Another rumored change is a new camera bar design for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. This design could give Samsung enough room to add Qi2 MagSafe-style wireless charging support.
Qi2 support would allow the Galaxy S27 Ultra to work with more charging accessories that support the standard, removing a major compatibility issue for Samsung users.
Samsung’s Ultra models have usually made up the largest share of shipments in the company’s flagship lineup, but they have also received several complaints from users.
One issue Samsung may try to fix is the feature gap between the Galaxy S27 Ultra and Galaxy S27+. To address this, the company is reportedly planning to introduce a Galaxy S27 Pro.
The Galaxy S27 Pro is expected to have only minor specification differences compared to the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which could help Samsung strengthen its flagship lineup next year.
The reported Galaxy S27 Pro should not take attention away from the Galaxy S27 Ultra, as the Ultra model is still expected to be Samsung’s top flagship phone.
With Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max expected to bring next-generation upgrades in late 2026, Samsung will need strong improvements to keep the Galaxy S27 Ultra competitive.
