The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has proposed allocating Rs9.5 billion in its 2026-27 budget to establish model schools across the province, aiming to modernize the public education system.
According to official budget documents, the initiative will upgrade 72 existing schools into model institutions designed to meet international education standards.
The plan includes 31 boys’ schools and 31 girls’ schools, which will be equipped with modern facilities such as advanced IT and science laboratories, swimming pools, and other infrastructure improvements.
Students from grades 6 to 12 enrolled in these model schools will receive free education along with boarding, meals, textbooks, and monthly stipends.
Under the proposed framework, each model school will admit 50 academically talented students selected on merit.
The project is scheduled to begin in July 2026 and is expected to be completed by September 2027.
Education Department officials said the programme has been included as a key reform initiative in the provincial budget, aimed at improving access to quality education and strengthening the province’s education sector.
