Protests in Balochistan intensified on Thursday as the Balochistan Grand Alliance announced an indefinite shutdown of government offices and educational institutions across the province in response to the arrest of government employees.
Following the announcement, administrative operations in several districts began to slow down, while protest rallies and demonstrations increased in scale and frequency.
The Grand Alliance leaders said government employees have been demanding their rights for the past two years, but instead of resolving their issues, authorities have responded with arrests and restrictions, including alleged curbs on public gatherings and press activities.
The alliance confirmed that its protest movement will continue and announced plans to set up an indefinite hunger strike camp outside the Quetta Press Club on June 19.
They urged the President and federal as well as provincial leadership to take immediate notice of the situation and address the concerns of government employees.
According to the alliance, police used tear gas and detained several employees during recent protests.
The ongoing shutdown has disrupted public service delivery and educational activities, raising concerns among students and parents about potential long-term academic losses if the situation continues.
