The Punjab Local Government Department has proposed permanently abolishing the birth registration fee and has forwarded a summary to the provincial cabinet for approval.
According to the department, the proposal seeks to eliminate the fee on a permanent basis. Last year, the Punjab cabinet approved a one year waiver of the birth registration fee.
The department has now recommended making the exemption permanent and has sent the summary to the Punjab Chief Secretary’s Office. The proposal has subsequently been forwarded to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for final approval.
Officials said the move aims to make birth registration more accessible for citizens and encourage the timely registration of newborn children across the province.
