The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across much of the country next week as a new weather system is expected to enter Pakistan by the end of the ongoing week.
Deputy Director of the Met Office Irfan Virk said the incoming system would bring heavy rain to several regions, including Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and large parts of Punjab.
According to Virk, northeastern, central, and southern Punjab are all expected to receive rain, while showers are also likely in different parts of Sindh and Balochistan during the week.
He warned that heavy downpours could trigger urban flooding in cities and flash floods in vulnerable areas, urging authorities and the public to remain cautious.
Virk added that the rainfall would also help improve water levels in reservoirs, providing some relief amid the country’s ongoing water shortage.
Pakistan has been facing increasing concerns over declining water reserves, making the expected rainfall particularly important for replenishing reservoirs and supporting water availability across the country.
