Antivirus Pioneer John McAfee Released from Detention

John David McAfee, cryptocurrency enthusiast, founder of McAfee Associates and the man behind the McAfee antivirus, has been released from detention. This was revealed on his Twitter account today.

The crypto enthusiast was arrested at Puerto Palta by the Dominican Republic armed forces. He had several high caliber weapons on his yacht when he was arrested.

McAfee was having issues with the US government since January this year when he announced that the government was charging him of using cryptocurrency in criminal acts. He also released a video claiming that the IRS (Internal Revenue Service, taxation authority in the US) had convinced a grand jury to indict him on unspecified offenses.

He has been on the run since 2012 after he was allegedly charged for murder in Belize. McAfee denies any involvement in the murder.

McAfee’s manager Rob Benedict Juan Maria Loggia-Ramirez was operating his twitter account when he was arrested. He posted a series of tweets hinting the detainment of John David McAfee.

He said,

I have good reason to suspect that John McAfee, @theemrsmcafee and other companions have been detained by authorities at their latest port of call. If John misses his next check-in, events will be set into motion that I cannot prevent once they have begun. John has secreted data with individuals across the world. I know neither their identities or locations. They will release their payloads if John goes missing.

He also said that the last time he spoke to McAfee was when he was boarding his ship and things were going rough at that time. That was probably when the US government got their hands on McAfee.
