Deep dish pizza – Yay or Nay?

We love and cherish pizza so much that it has emotional importance for us. Pizza, being the favorite food of many, can sometimes also be a source of heated discussions. You probably argue with friends and family often defending your favorite pizza type or a specific pizzeria. If we’re being honest, we have also judged strangers depending on their pizza choices. There is a constant competition going on among deep-dish pizza, stuffed crust pizza, thin-crust pizza, and pan pizza. What is a deep-dish pizza?

The Chicago-style pizza or deep-dish pizza, as the name suggests is characterized by the layers of tomato sauce, cheese, and toppings present in it. Deep dish pizza has a thick crust that is raised at least an inch tall on all edges and can even go up to 2 inches. Deep-dish pizza pans are usually different from regular pans. These pizza pans are fairly oiled, making the pizza crust fry as it’s baking. This gives the pizza crust a unique crispy texture that is not found in other pizza types. In my opinion, deep-dish pizza is far better than the regular pizza and I can justify that. Here are some reasons that will help you to agree with me.

pizza types

1. Deep dish pizza is more filling than the other pizzas

A slice or two of the thin crust and regular crust pizza seem like a snack more than a meal. These pizza types always leave you wanting more because your stomach feels empty no matter how much you’ve had. Rest assured; this is not the case with deep dish pizza. Each slice of deep-dish pizza is loaded with cheese and toppings and is quite filling. A filling pizza means you will easily be able to share it. It’s definitely a smarter choice if you have friends or family coming over as you’ll have to spend less on the food.

2. More room for different toppings in deep-dish pizza

In a regular pan pizza, there is a confined space where you can add the toppings. This is attributed to the flat surface of these pizzas. In the case of deep-dish pizza, the crust can withhold stacks of toppings. You can go extra with the toppings in deep-dish pizza and keep adding whatever you want without worrying about the space. This quality even has a health benefit! By adding more toppings, you can actually lower the glycemic index leading to a possible weight loss. As unreal as this sounds, it’s true and now you have an excuse to eat as much pizza as you want.

3. More cheese options

Unlike the other pizzas, the deep-dish pizza uses sliced cheese. This gives us a wider variety to choose from as most types of cheese come in a sliced form rather than a block form. You can mix and match the types of cheese however you want and can create your own marvel. Also, you can definitely add more cheese in deep-dish pizza than the regular pan pizza.

4. Deep dish pizza is a sit-down meal

The New York-style pizza is more of a snack than a meal. It is super convenient for people who are always on the go. Contrary to that, deep dish pizza will be your perfect choice if you want to enjoy a proper sit-down meal with friends and family. The thickness of this pizza will push you to sit down at a restaurant table and interact. You will also have to use the proper utensils and will be bound to act more civilized.

5. This pizza type is easy to make at home

Deep dish pizza is way easier to make than regular pizza. The main reason for this is that you won’t need a separate pizza pan. You can practically make these pizzas in the same pans that you use for baking cakes. So, no extra spending on bakeware. Also, you don’t have to struggle to make your dough all flat and round. Just adjust it on the pan, add the toppings and bake!

6. No oil stains

If you are a messy eater, you probably have had to deal with all the pizza grease stains. This is not the case with deep dish pizzas as these pizza crusts are generally drier and much easier to deal with in terms of the mess. Also, there are obviously fewer chances of a mess when you are eating at a table.
