Sweet Potato Isn’t Food. It’s a War Crime!

I have never been able to enjoy this bliss. I have never been able to enjoy sweet potatoes. Often, I have seen my mother enjoy sweet potatoes. It’s more like a state of disgust than a state of delight. Right now I don’t even have sweet potatoes around but even the thought of sweet potatoes is making me gag.

I don’t even know how I am having them wrong. Last week I washed them, peeled them, sliced them into thin long fries, put some seasoning on them, and baked them. When I had the first piece, I wanted to vomit. I wanted to go on. I wanted to have more because I thought I will start liking them after a few tries but no. I just had three and handed the rest of them to my mom. While cutting them, I realized that they are so hard to cut. They gave my knives a very tough time, my brand new knives.

Compared to regular fries, sweet potato fries do not stand a chance.

Anyway, I have a bunch of ways to make sweet potatoes bearable. I hope these ways work for you.

1. Baked Sweet Potatoes

For making them taste better, make sure you buy thin and long ones. They cook faster. Set your oven to 400 degrees. The most important step is to prick the potato in different spots. This step ensures that steam is removed while the potato cooks. Just brush a little olive oil, pepper, and salt on top. You will have to bake till the outer side is crisp and the inner side is tender. You can top it with any topping you like. I personally recommend ranch sauce.

2. Roasted Sweet Potatoes

I’d recommend that if you want to try roasted sweet potatoes, try to have them cut in the shape of cubes or wedges. For making sure that potatoes taste good, marinate them with spices and olive oil in a big bowl. Make sure that you are doing this with your hands and not a spoon. This enhances the taste. Places your potatoes far apart from each other so that they are roasted perfectly.

3. Mashed Sweet Potatoes

You can either make them extremely smooth or slightly lumpy. Boil them for about 15-20 minutes depending on the texture you want to achieve. You can either mash it with a potato masher or machine. You can always add more sugar if you think your potatoes aren’t sweet enough.

4. Grilled Sweet Potatoes

Before grilling, you can either start from the scratch or you can boil it before you grill it. Anyway, you have to char them on both sides until grill marks appear. You will have to move them to a less hot part afterward to avoid burning. Sprinkle lemon juice on top to add a different effect.

5. Sweet Potato Noodles

Often known as swoodles, sweet potato noodles are a good replacement for regular pasta. They make a good alternative for gluten-free-pasta. All you need for this is a spiralizer. It is a really cool tool that changes veggies into cool noodles.

So, I suppose one way or another will help you stop hating sweet potatoes. Or maybe it will help you hate them less. It all depends on you.
