Everyone loses data at some point due to malware, hard drive failure or a software bug. So, it’s better to keep a backup of all the important files, photos, contacts etc. Because you can reinstall the operating system and download the apps again, but losing personal data is irreparable. So, in order to back up your PC and phone files, you can do the following.
First, let’s talk about the cheapest ways to backup PC data in Pakistan.
Cloud Storage
There are several cloud services available which allow us to store data in a remote location by accessing it from anywhere using a PC or smartphone.
There are some big players in the cloud storage field which include:
- Google Drive (free 15 GB space)
- One Drive (free 5 GB space)
- Dropbox (free 2 GB space)
- iCloud (free 5 GB space)
- Box (free 10 GB space)
You need to create an account on any of these cloud storage services and start uploading the data which you want to back up. You have to regularly sync the personal files on these cloud storages to keep the backups data up to date.
Note: You can select storage plans of the cloud storage while creating the account.
As these cloud storages only provide a small amount of free space, you need to buy more space if you want to back up all your data in the cloud. However, these cloud storages are not cheap. You have to pay about PKR 500 to 1000 per month for 500 GB to 1 TB of space. If you want to backup limited data that can be stored in the given free storage space, then cloud storage is the best way to store all your files.
There is another program that allows you to back up the large number of files, known as Backblaze. Backblaze will keep multiple copies of different versions of your files, so you can restore the file exactly as it was from many points in its history.
External Drives | HDD and SSD
If you have an external drive like SSD or HDD, then there isn’t a better way to back up all your data. The data transfer speed is fast and you can easily transfer all data by just plugging in the external drive.
Windows 8 or above users also get a backup built-in feature which allows them to back up all our computer data in the external hard drive. Here’s how it’s done:
- Connect your external drive.
- Go to settings.
- Click on “update and security”.
- After that, click on “Backup”.
- Now click on add drive.
- Windows will search for the drive. Select the drive and windows will start backing up all the data in the external drive.
Note: You can later connect the external drive to restore all the data using the same backup feature.
If you don’t have an external HDD or SSD then, we recommend that you buy one. It is a fast and reliable process and a one time expense. Perhaps the one decision you have to make is whether to go for SSD or HDD. SSD (Solid State Drive) is quite expensive but provides a much better data transfer speed as compared to HDD. However, In the interest of ensuring cost efficiency, we recommend that you compromise on the speed and go for a cheaper option.

USB
This is another way to back up data from your PC. You can get USBs with different storage capacities and at different price points. They are handy, easy to carry and by all means, the most convenient option for data storage, among the whole bunch.
Note: USB can get pricey if you’re going for larger storage spaces.
CD/DVD or Blu-Ray discs
You can also store your data on CD/DVD or Blu-ray discs. It will take a lot of your time but you don’t have to worry about the drive failure, which might be a problem in external drives like SSD, HDD and USB. Just buy a writable CD/ DVD or a Blu-ray disc and transfer all the data onto the disc. These discs are available at different price points. However, they are a lot cheaper as compared to external drives.

The Cheapest Ways to Back up Phone Data in Pakistan
Just like in PCs, you can use cloud storages to back up your mobile phone data such as your photos, contacts, message history etc. Just download any of the aforementioned cloud storage apps and start uploading your files.
Note: Android users cannot use iCloud because it is only available for iOS users.
You just need a stable internet connection to back up data in the cloud storage. Given the stable connection, you can also access the data from anywhere you want. Android and iOS users can use their built-in backup facility to transfer all the data in the cloud storage.
Note: You must have enough cloud storage to back up all the data. Otherwise, you need to buy more cloud storage.
Backing up Phone Data in PC
Transferring all the data in the PC is the best and fastest way to back up all your phone data. Just connect your mobile through a USB cable and you’re good to go. Android users can transfer all the media files from their phone to PC in a matter of minutes. iPhone users can also back up data on PC by using iTunes in your PC.

Backing up Phone Data in Memory Card
This option is only available for android users because the iPhone does not have the feature of external memory card. Android users who have a memory card can use this method to save all the media files and documents. Just copy all the data into the memory card and transfer it into your PC via memory card reader.
