2019 has been a roller coaster of a year. With tensions with India and the ban of Bollywood movies in our local cinemas, Pakistani films got a chance to shine in the spotlight. The ban caused an influx in the revenue streams at the box office. The biggest hits of the year that stood out were Sherdil, Superstar, Baaji and Parey Hut Love.
Cinemas are currently relying on Hollywood blockbusters like DC’s Joker to generate sufficient revenue. There is hope for Lollywood and 2020 looks very promising for Pakistani movie goers.
Here are the top ten highly anticipated Lollywood films set to release in 2020:
Abhinandan Come On
After Vivek Oberoi announced a film on IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, Pakistani filmmaker, Khalil ur Rehman Qamar has reportedly decided to make a comedy film on the Balakot air strike incident. Much like the tea, we are sure the film is going to be ‘Fantastic’!
Bhaag Bhootni Ke
Starring Junaid Akhtar, alongside A-listers Fawad Khan and the gorgeous Mahira Khan, the comedy film will be produced by IMGC. It will be written and directed by Syed Atif Ali.
Gawah Rehana
A big screen debut for Emmad Irfani along with Ghana Ali, the film is produced by Dr Irfan Ashraf. Gawah Rehna is a period drama based around 1920 British colonial era. The film is a tribute to unsung heroes of our independence movement and brave Turkish nation.
Half Fry
Starring Yasir Hussain along with fiancée Iqra Aziz in her film debut, the film comes from the writer/director Abu Aleeha who released two films in 2019.

Huay Tum Ajnabee
The film stars the versatile Mikaal Zulfiqar and gorgeous Sadia Khan. The film is titled Huay Tum Ajnabee and it is a love story in the backdrop of the fall of Dhaka.
Ishrat – Made in China
Mohib Mirza is making his directorial debut. The film will star Mohib Mirza, Sara Loren, Sanam Saeed, Shamoon Abbasi, Nayyar Ejaz, Ali Kazmi and would you believe it, HSY! The film will mark the acting debut of ace designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin as a villain!
Jugnu
Jami is one of the most acclaimed filmmakers of Pakistan film industry. His two films old have received positive responses from critics. Jami is back as producer with the film Jugnu starring Babar Zardari, Shahjahan Narejo, Kulsoom Aftab, Meesum Naqvi and others. Music is composed by the sufi folk rock band “The Sketches”.
Kahay Dil Jidhar
Singer/actor Junaid Khan is making his debut as the lead actor in an upcoming film alongside Laal Kabootar star Masha Pasha. The film is titled Kahay Dil Jidhar. The film has been directed by Jalal Rumi who is an established TVC director.
Lafangey
Pakistan’s first horror comedy film, Lafangey will feature Sajal Aly and Feroze Khan with Zindigi Kitni Haseen Hai’s writer Abdull Khaaliq Khan at the helms.
Sorry Baba
Naseem Vicky will be debuting as a film director. The comedian will be writing and directing a Punjabi film which will be produced by Kamran Ejaz and Amjad Rashid of IMGC. This will be the 5th production of IMGC for the year 2020.

The upcoming year promises to deliver 42 Pakistani films that are sure to generate a lot of buzz at the box office.
