Everyone’s favorite showbiz diva Maya Ali opened up about the relentless pressure to get married—a topic that seems to be on everyone’s lips, especially with the likes of Kubra Khan and Mawra Hocane getting hitched.
In a recent appearance on Nida Yasir’s Shan-e-Suhoor, Maya candidly shared her thoughts on love, marriage, and the societal expectations that come with them.
The Sunn Mere Dil star revealed how her parents often nudge her toward marriage, saying, “In every namaz, my mother prays that I get married.”
But Maya Ali is not one to rush into anything just to tick a box. “It’s so difficult to explain to our elders that you can’t just get married for the sake of it,” she added.
While she’s not against the idea of marriage, Maya firmly believes it should happen organically. “When the right person comes into your life at the right time, it’ll be effortless,” she said.
Reflecting on what makes a marriage successful, the Diyar-e-Dil star stressed the importance of companionship and mutual respect over the fairy-tale notions of romance. “He needs to understand me, my work, and most importantly, he must value the woman in his life—that’s something every girl deserves. If I find someone like that, I’ll have no issues.”
Maya also pointed out the societal pressure that often pushes women toward marriage, with many invoking religion and fate in the conversation. “Our society talks a lot about kismat and religion. But no one considers that it’s already written—when and who you marry is written by God. It’ll happen when it’s destined to happen.”
The pressure intensified for Maya when her younger brother tied the knot, leading to a flurry of questions about her own marital status. “People started asking me why I’m not settling down. But how does that even make sense? It’ll happen when the time is right,” she quipped, clearly unfazed by the nosy inquiries.
Concluding on a lighter note, Maya added with a laugh, “The day I find a good man who respects me and my mother—and of course, I’ll respect him too—I’ll do it. The day violins start playing in my heart, I’ll do it.”
