Amitabh Bachan Has Refused to Play a Pakistani in New Movie

The recent Pak-India tensions made him change his mind.

Amitabh Bachchan

Bollywood’s Amitabh Bachchan is very selective with his words when it comes to public statements and interviews. However, his cautiousness has expanded to his projects after recent tensions with neighboring Pakistan.

The veteran actor was all set to play a Pakistani in Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty’s directorial debut. Resul, who shares a long association with Mr. Bachchan, has been in touch with him about this project for two years.

Big B loved the script of the movie that extended a pro peace message, and Resul was waiting for the dates from him to start shooting.

Mind Changed

However, recent tensions between the two countries have proved to be unfortunate for Resul as Amitabh opted out of the film at the eleventh hour.

Apparently, he got cold feet and decided not to give radical elements in India any excuse to go after him. Amitabh didn’t want to be given an ‘anti-national’ tag for himself.

It should be mentioned that Mr. Bachchan has a huge fan following across India, and he might not have wanted to hurt their sentiments.

In both scenarios, the only man at lose seems to be Resul, who is out of ideas for the cast of his life-changing project.

It should be noted that following the Balakot strike that led to aerial combat between the air forces of two countries, all political, business and cultural ties have been cut and Pakistani artists have been banned from working in Bollywood.
