Corruption By Biryani: Video of Contractor Trying to Bribe SBCA Officials Goes Viral

Is this a joke?

They say that there is no sincerer love out their than the one we have with food. And sometimes, this love may come in the way of our duties and responsibilities. A recent incident in Karachi has illustrates this scenario all too well.

The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) is a regulatory and supervisory body whose prime function is to ensure that the approval of building plans and NOCs etc. are in conformation with the government. But it seems that the mere scent of biryani may have made some of its employees look the other way, when it comes to building codes and safety measures.

Let us take a look at this video:

Anything for biryani

Taking the ‘biryani is my life’ slogan to our hearts, a strange case of bribery caught the eyes of the camera. Apparently, the building contractor was trying to allegedly bribe officials belonging to the SCBA with biryani, in order to convince them to build two portions instead of one per floor, which is illegal according to the law.

As you can see in the video, a worker carried the biryani boxes along with a Coca Cola bottle. We must say, they know their priorities very well.

The incident took place in a neighborhood of North Nazimabad, Karachi. When the person in the video went closer to the scene and made a comment on how they are enjoying their biryani i.e. their bribe, the workers came at him and started arguing that it was not a bribe and nobody bought it for them.

It seems that corruption has become a part of our life, so much that we are ready to risk the lives of hundreds of people just for a plate of biryani. Who’s to blame?

  1. Utterly misleading news. I know this incident personally. Yes biryani was offered. But it was offered by builders to junior manual labor, not sbca officials. And these labor are hired on freelance basis, they are not sbca employees. So this meal was offered as a courtesy. I’m not at all a party to any of this but you need to verify your facts before publishing a story.
