In the last few years, the Pakistani film industry has managed to regain its glory with a smattering of well-received films. From ‘Khuda Kay Liye’, to ‘BOL’ to ‘Waar’, to ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt,’ Pakistani cinema has produced some pretty diverse and top-notch stuff during the last decade.

As more and more Pakistani films become commercial hits, one can hope that we keep this streak going. One day our production qualities might rival those from Bollywood and Hollywood.

Delhi Gate

While we are certainly not at that stage yet, there are some upcoming Lollywood flicks that give us a peek at the potential to do so. One of such films is Shamoon Abbasi’s ‘Delhi Gate.’

Written by the veteran writer Kamal Pasha and directed by Nadeem Cheema – the cousin of the seasoned actor Shafqat Cheema – the film promises to be an action thriller, with a twisted love story to boot.

The film is being produced under the banner of Sky Fall Films Canada.

It features a star cast including Shamoon, Jawed Sheikh, Qavi Khan, Shafqat Cheema, Rashid Mehmood, and Khalid Butt.

Debutantes Yasir Khan and Suzanne will get their break as the lead actor and actress.

‘Delhi Gate’ is expected to release in early 2020.

Shamoon’s Thoughts

Shamoon Abbasi, who is busy with the cast in the shooting of the film in Lahore, was very optimistic about the film.

Here is what he told to HIP about the movie and his role:

“The name of my character is Malik Gold; he’s a thinking villain but this time around a romantic love story.

My look in the film is very fancy; I have attempted something different from the dark sided antagonist roles I’ve been doing earlier.

As an actor, I always seek to portray my roles with a lot of thought process keeping in view the minute details.”

He was hopeful that the film will introduce audiences to the unseen aspects of life in the Lahore of the old.

“Many of us aren’t aware of the history of the historic Delhi Gate and the people living around the walled city of Lahore. It will unveil the sheer beauty, native culture and colorful aspects that will surely capture the audience senses”.

He was very clear on the fact that his latest stint with director Nadeem Cheema was anything but a stereotypical romance film that we see every other day.

“Delhi Gate isn’t a run of the mill romance that we see quite often. It’s a twisted love story with loads of action and that what makes the film different and unique for the audiences.”

With ‘Durj’,’ Ishrat’, ‘Patakh Dey’ and ‘The Trail’ on the line, the versatile actor has an interesting line-up of movies coming this year.

Besides these, Shamoon is also making waves with web series. Some of his upcoming releases include ‘Mind Games’, and ‘The Legend of Javed Iqbal.’
