Game of Thrones Season 8 Teaser Hints at a Battle Between Fire & Ice

The teaser seems to have plenty of clues scattered

Another teaser trailer for the Game of Thrones final season is here and frankly, this one is going to leave fans with their thinking cap on.

The teaser trailer is just as vague as the previous trailer, but for true fans of the series, it provides some interesting context.

Lets take a look at the teaser:

The trailer makes it clear that Season 8 will be a battle of ‘Fire and Ice’, which is pretty obvious since winter is here and the dragons are gonna help fight it. Since the books that the entire Game of Thrones series is based on is called A Song of Fire and Ice by George R. R. Martin, that’s kind of a dead giveaway.

The trailer shows us the map of Westeros, and the way both Fire and Ice glide towards one another clashing in the middle to create this dragonglass-like substance. We know the battle is between the North were the threat is coming and the Seven Kingdoms of the South. Unless you look closely that is.

When Fire and Ice Meet

Observe the part in the trailer where we see the dragon-glass forming, which gives us a clue. If dragon glass can kill white-walkers, and that fire and ice can make dragon glass, then does that explain Viserion being alive? He’s fire, he’s a dragon, and then with ice he’s something else??

Or maybe this symbolizes the alliance between the Lord of Winterfell Jon Snow and the Mother of Dragons Daenerys? Questions, questions.

The Ghost / Greywind

As the ice engulfs everything in its path, we see Jon Snow’s direwolf ‘Ghost’ fall prey to it. Does that mean that Winterfell will fall to the whitewalker army? Or does that mean Jon Snow will finally die?

We already know that Winterfell would be a key battle ground and we can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.

The White Dragon

The ice also swallows a dragon after it takes the Shaggy Dog statue. This seems to be another reference to Viserion and here’s what I think.

At the end of last season, when the body of Viserion is brought to the White walkers’ King, the dragon comes back to life, with blue eyes. The dragon’s eyes are blue like the White walkers’ king, not like the whitewalkers.

Its’ been made clear from seasons 1-7 that a dragon is no one’s slave. The tricky part is that white walkers are slaves of the White King. Will Viserion be his own dragon or will he fight for the zombie army?

The Burning Lion

We see a lion statue engulfed in the wake of the hungry fire. The lion is also the symbol on the Lannister’s emblem. We knew that Daenerys wanted the Lannister’s dead but in Season 7 we see her reach out to them for an alliance against the white army. Will she avenge the mad king before the great battle?

Dragonstone:

We see the map of Westeros that is seen engulfed in fire and ice. We also see Daenerys’ Dragonstone, which is often seen in scenes were military strategy is being planned out. Maybe its a reference to the fact that the battle is on or that Daenerys will be calling the shots in this grand battle?

Now be warned this is just a theory and we can’t say for sure if this is real or not but did you notice all these references in the trailer too?

As we wait for April, 2019, deep down we don’t really want the battle for the Iron Throne to end. Or do we?
