We might be getting a sequel to Heat and it’s expected to be based on as a novel inspired by the movie, set to be published soon. We got word from both the Heat director as well as the writer of the follow-up novel, that a Heat 2 movie is definitely in the works.
Director Michael Mann created an iconic duo when he brought Hollywood legends Al Pacino and Robert De Niro together for the first time in Heat. The film is a cult classic and people have long awaited a sequel to it.
Just when people thought they’d settle for an amazing standalone film, Micheal Mann is giving us hope.

Heat 2 Rumors
In 2016, Micheal Mann announced that a novel inspired by Heat would be published by his own ‘Harper-Collins’ publishing imprint. Mann is co-writing the book with crime author Reed Coleman.
“The novel is about two-thirds written, and it’s the prequel to ‘Heat’ and it’s the sequel to ‘Heat’ rolled together.”
The book is not yet published but an expected release date is set for next year. That’s why now Mann wants to make a big-screen sequel to Heat.

Where will the story in Heat 2 will go from here? How much will the novel’s content be used? Turns out the novel really covers all the bases. This leaves confusion on if we’re getting a sequel or a prequel.

To adapt the novel into a screenplay, of course amendments will be made. Even Mann isn’t sure if it will be a movie though.

Sequel or Prequel?
The 1995 epic Heat cast Pacino as a Los Angeles detective, Vincent Hanna pursuing De Niro’s heist gang boss across the city is considered a classic crime thriller. DeNiro plays Neil McCauley a gangster that orchestrates armed robberies.
Heat ends with one dead Neil McCauley so we don’t know how a sequel will work out. If Heat 2 is a prequel, Mann said the book does explore a time when Neil McCauley was in prison.

McCauley was in his 20s at the time. When he got out he moved to Los Angeles.
Mann revealed that Heat 2 will also feature the childhood of Val Kilmer’s character Chris Chiherlis. Chris Shiherlis is a young bank robber and part of McCauley’s gang.
