‘I am a Great Admirer of His Craft’: Diljit Dosanjh Talks About Working with Sohail Ahmed

“He [Sohail] is loved not only in Pakistan’s Punjab but also in the Punjab of India,” the ‘Jogi’ star gushed.

Indian Punjabi artiste Diljit Dosanjh recently shared his experience of working with Pakistani comedian Sohail Ahmed in his latest film Babe Bhangra Paunde Ne.

The renowned artist took the opportunity to promote Babe Bhangra Paunde Ne with Pakistani comedian/actor Sohail Ahmed in an interview by Express Tribune.

Talking about the upcoming movie, he said,

It’s fun, it’ll make you laugh but, in the end, the sweet message that it incorporates will also make you contemplate the many other perspectives about relationships that we ignore.

The Indian singer-cum-actor also spoke about his experience working with Sohail Ahmed. The Jogi star revealed that he was adamant about his casting while coming up with the character.

He revealed,

When we were creating this character, the only artist we thought of casting was Sohail Ahmed. I told the producer, if Sohail sir wouldn’t agree to do this project, I won’t star in it.

Diljit Dosanjh admitted to the veteran being “a great admirer of his craft” as he learned a lot from him during his time on Babe Bhangra Paunde Ne.

During the interview, Diljit Dosanjh stated that this film is a perfect example of the statement “art has no boundaries”.

He explained,

Mark my word, art is ‘sanjha‘ and you can’t divide it on basis of borders. For instance, we are working with Sohail Ahmed and he is dearly loved globally, including in India. So, the statement that art has no boundaries rings true. He [Sohail] is loved not only in Pakistan’s Punjab but also in the Punjab of India.

Diljit Dosanjh is a man of many talents. The renowned Sikh artist is famous for numerous hit singles like Pyaas, Roti, and Sardaar Ji to name a few. The 38-year-old has gone from performing at sold-out concerts to captivating audiences with his stellar acting performances in films like Udta PunjabJogi, and most-recently Babe Bhangra Paunde Ne.

Babe Bhangra Paunde Ne is a Punjabi comedy that revolves around Diljit Dosanjh’s character who decides to adopt an elderly man (Sohail Ahmed) as his father in order to get money from his insurance policy. Sargun Mehta’s character works at the retirement home, and she also joins in on the plan, providing Diljit’s character with information about her clients. Diljit and his friends plan to keep the dying ‘papaji’ alive for 25 days but things don’t go as planned as his health drastically improves, much to everyone’s dismay.

The film is currently in theaters since its worldwide release on 5 October.
