Khalil ur Rehman Calls Adnan Malik a ‘Hijra’ on Live Television [Video]

This is in very bad taste.

Khalil ur Rehman Qamar

For the past few months Khalil ur Rehman Khan has been enjoying the ‘greatest writer of our industry’ title. However, his recent outburst at Marvi Sirmed and several other well known personalities has resulted in a never-ending controversy about his poor conduct with others.

This pretty much explains how popularity and fame can become toxic overnight. People argue that what he did and has been doing for the past few days is acceptable vs not acceptable at all. But it’s also clear that abusing people, calling them names and cursing at them just because he was ‘triggered’, does not justify his outbursts.

In response to his derogatory remarks on a number of recent occasions, a lot of Pakistani celebrities and media personalities came out to express their disgust and disappointment. In fact, celebrities who have worked with him in the past also regret their decisions.

Adnan Malik, who played the lead in Khalil’s Sadqay Tumharay also shared his sentiments about the whole situation. He said this incident has unmasked a ‘rabid, inarticulate, hate-spewing misogynist.’

KRQ’s Response is Very Insensitive

As expected Khalil ur Rehman could not keep his calm this time as well. He shamelessly called Adnan Malik a ‘hijra’ (transgender) on live television. This is the most disrespectful thing one could do to express their anger.

To give a brief background of their past project, Sadqay Tumharay is actually an autobiographical drama. It tells the story of Khalil ur Rehman Qamar himself and the surprising part is that the playwright named his lead after himself.

As you can see in the video, Khalil ur Rehman Qamar blatantly slammed Adnan Malik and used the term ‘hijra’ to insult him. He said that a lot of ‘hijrey’ have entered into our entertainment industry and unfortunately we often see them playing the role of a ‘hero’.

Although he makes sure that his protagonists aren’t one, he mistakenly chose one to play his own character hinting at Sadqay Tumharay’s protagonist Adnan Malik.

‘Hijra’ or ‘transgender’ should neither be treated as a slur nor a term of abuse and insult. This is a constructed bias towards those who have been through hell just to survive on a piece of bread.

The way Khalil ur Rehman Qamar used this term, did not only disrespect Adnan but also mocked the targeted community. Perhaps now, people who are supporting him despite all of these prejudiced remarks, may realize that they can’t excuse a person’s misbehavior for so long.
