Pakistani writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, who is known for his misogynistic statements and controversies more than his wit, is once again in hot waters. This time for misbehaving with a female panelist in a talk show.

The writer was invited at Bolta Lahore along with lawyer Naheed Baig and journalist Ailia Zehra. The topic of discussion was marriage and how it has been shaped according to our society.

The host, Awais Iqbal and the panelists discussed in detail the stigmas and measures of toxicity we have attached with the concept of marriage. They also discussed the rising rate of divorce cases and child marriages.

Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar does it again!

When Ailia Zehra talked about how men take advantage of Islam for their own benefit and justify their questionable acts in the name of their religion, the Meray Pass Tum Ho writer lost his cool.

Islam allows a man to have four wives, but this religious privilege comes with responsibilities. He must also fulfill his duties towards his wives, but in our society, we mostly see husbands abandoning their first wife for the second. When Ailia Zehra highlighted this fact in her debate, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar got offended and took it as a mockery of Islam and the Quran.

He started shouting at the top of his lungs and when the host asked him to speak respectfully, he left the show. According to details, he got more abusive after going off air. Reports suggest that when the crew tried convincing him to come back, he used gender slurs against the female panelists and went as far as to call Ailia a ‘RAW Agent’.

Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar left the studio in fury and also told the producer that his actions were justified because Ailia Zehra had not greeted him when he entered the studio.

Ailia shared the clip on her Twitter and said it was a ‘horrible encounter’. She further wrote,

“It’s 2021 — Pakistani women will no longer let men like KRQ get away with this behavior. We will call them out each and every time.”
