Malala Yousafzai Trolled After Marriage Announcement

The Nobel Peace Prize Laureate is being trolled over her previous remarks about the traditional institution of marriage.

Malala Yousafzai - Asser Malik

As Pakistani education activist, Malala Yousafzai tied the knot, aside from the congratulatory messages, there has been an outpour of memes!

The Nobel Peace Prize Laureate is being trolled over her previous remarks about the traditional institution of marriage. In an interview with British Vogue just months ago, she critiqued the traditional institution of marriage saying;

“I still don’t understand why people have to get married. If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership?”

Now, Malala Yousafzai signed marriage papers as she tied the knot with Asser Malik in a small ceremony on Tuesday. The little celebration in Birmingham was attended only by family.

The writer announced the news on Twitter and shared pictures of her wedding. She captioned the photos;

“Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead.”

While most congratulated the activist, including wishes from celebs like Priyanka Chopra, Jemima Goldsmith, Katrina Kaif, Lilly Singh, and many others, there were memes too.

Netizens trolled the Nobel Laureate for marrying at a young age when she voiced strong opinions opposing the idea months ago.

Others were trying to ‘rub in’ that the education activist had a change of heart. Was this either due to her partner’s insistence or her family’s?

What even is this?

Congratulations to the Pakistani global leader and her partner on their marriage. Perhaps Netizens are taking the label ‘partner’ out of context. Are these memes and this trolling going too far? Let us know in the comments below.
