We all remember American Idol, the talent show that gave us Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Now we have a Pakistani-American, Bilaal Avaz in the list of finalists for American Idol Season 18
If Bilaal Avaz makes it to the top 20, this will be the first time in the show’s eighteen years that will feature a Pakistani-American.
The college student has made past the first round and hopefully onto the list of top 20 finalists. The list of finalists has not yet been announced.
While the 19-year-old may be working his way up with his smooth voice now, things weren’t always that way. Like most multicultural kids from a desi family, this college student wasn’t allowed to pursue music professionally.
Bilaal revealed he was raised in a strict religious family. He was told things like ‘music is prohibited in Islam’.
So a professional career in the music industry was a no, no. But as time went on, his family came around. And now, they’re his biggest fans!
Other potential finalists of American Idol S18 made it past round 1 onto Hollywood week. From there on, finalists are slashed from top 40 to top 20.
Soon enough they would have started battling it out on stage. Hopefully, we will get to hear more of Bilaal’s live music compositions!
When will American Idol resume?
Too bad the Coronavirus pandemic had to spoil the show. American Idol’s production is ceased until the outbreak is contained.
In April, they would have started producing live episodes featuring the top 20 contestants. In the meantime, the recorded auditions are running on air.
