About Veena Bedi
Coincidentally, Veena Bedi is a Pakistani.
Bedi was reportedly sold to a Pakistani man by a travel agent. The agent conned her into believing that he would help her land a housekeeping job for a salary of Rs 30,000 per month. This seems to be a common background story for women who are lured and then sold off in trafficking.
How did Sunny Deol, a Bollywood star and an Indian politician get wrapped up in this? Veena’s family had pleaded with Sunny to help their daughter.
When did they even meet him? Samaa News says it happened during the family’s visit to Kartarpur Corridor, on the Indian side of the border. The Gadar: Ek Prem Katha star then personally intervened in the matter.
Being an MP, Sunny Deol reached out to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

Traffickers Taking Advantage of Pakistani Women
Cases of women being trafficked after being conned into traveling abroad for jobs is not unheard of.
Back in 2014 Pakistani women trafficked and sold into slavery in Dubai made international headlines.
Even in trafficking operations elsewhere, women are conned with offers of employment, only to be sold into forced labor or sexual slavery.
Recently a network of Chinese men who married Christian women in Pakistan for the purpose of trafficking was exposed. As many as half a dozen women between 17-25 years old were to be sold off for sex slavery.
Timely action by the Punjab police saved them.
Human trafficking remains a serious issue. Sunny Deol’s initiative to get a Pakistani woman released haven’t just earned him some fans on this side of the border but also gratitude for doing the right thing.
