Karachi now has the ‘world’s tallest mural by a single artist’. And we can thank Italian artist Pepe Gaka for the superb artwork.
The artwork setting a new world record was inaugurated on December, 25th, observed in Pakistan as Quaid-e-Azam Day or Quaid-e-Azam’s birthday.
The initiative was by International Public Art Festival (IPAF) and I Am Karachi. The two organizations teamed up to have Center Point building in Karachi decorated with world’s tallest mural by a single artist.
How tall exactly? The answer is 286 feet.

A Love Letter to Karachi
Chairman IPAF, Jameel Yousaf says that the purpose of the mural is to present a soft image of Karachi, Pakistan. He wants the press to cut back on the ‘false branding of terrorism’.
“That that falsely brand us with terrorism, this and that, they do not even know how much love, affection, and compassion in Karachi city. It’s(Karachi) so vibrant, I don’t think there’s any city in the world this vibrant,”
Giuseppe Percivati, the artist also known as Pepe Gaka, made this mural. His artwork depicts Pakistan’s ‘Mangrove Forest’ and is hoping to raise awareness about increasing deforestation in Pakistan. After all, the country is the 7th most vulnerable to climate change.
“They wanted to make a mural to raise awareness about deforestation, the cutting of the Mongoose Forest.”
According to what the artist told Times of Karachi, the Centre Point building mural is an image of Pakistan’s coastal line. There’s an eagle soaring overhead in a central-top position. Is that eagle a reference to Iqbal’s Shaheen?
Although the mural is the ‘world’s tallest mural by a single artist’, the record has not been verified by the Guinness Book of World Records yet.

IPAF plans to record this feat with the Guinness World Records and has filled out a form for that purpose.
While there is a ‘world’s largest mural by multiple artists‘ in the Guinness Book of World Records, the world’s tallest mural by a single artist sounds new.
The world’s largest mural by a single artist is held by the north-Wichita, Beachner Grain elevator on 519 E., 20th Street. Colombian artist GLeo holds that title.
It’s actually ‘Pepe Gaka”, not Pepe gaga.
And it’s “mangrove forest”, not Mongoose forest. 😉
