Unbelievable But True: Imran Khan Almost Became A Bollywood Star [Video]

Just like Kapil Dev!

Twitter just brought up that Imran Khan was once asked to be in a Dev Anand film. The actor himself had approached Imran Khan, but the former cricketer thought it wasn’t a good idea.

An old video of the Prime Minister Imran Khan has been making rounds on Twitter. The video features an old interview of the ex-cricket captain.

During the interview, Imran Khan was asked if he had ever been offered a role in Bollywood, to which the Pakistani PM replied yes.

“You won’t believe it but I was once I asked by a brilliant Indian actor who we all look up to, to act in one of his upcoming film. In fact, he even turned up in England to request me, but I was puzzled.”

Initially, Imran Khan shied away from mentioning the name of the ‘famed Indian actor’. After much insistence, he named Dev Anand. He also let lose details of another time he was offered a role in a Bollywood movie.

“Okay, it was Dev Anand, who in my time was very well known. For me it’s strange, to think that just because I’m a cricketer, doesn’t mean I can be an actor as well. It doesn’t make sense to me. Ismail Merchant also once asked me to act in a film, but again I was puzzled because I can’t act. I couldn’t even act in a school play, let alone a film.”

It isn’t odd for cricketers to take up acting afterward. After all they were already famous, in good shape and sportsmen retire when they hit the middle-aged margin. Acting doesn’t place that limit on artists.

Old News

The weirdest part is this fact is old news. In Dev Anand’s autobiography, Romancing with Life, published by the Penguin Group in 2007, he had revealed that he wanted the Pakistani cricket star to play the role of a star in decline in his film Awwal Number.

“You have bowled me over, Mr Dev Anand. But I don’t think I am a good actor,”

When Imran Khan declined the offer from Anand, Aditya Pancholi was approached. In the end, Aamir Khan ended up playing the part.

Comments

  1. He should have become actor…
He lies blatantly on every issue; a compulsive liar by all means…
Unfortunate for Pakistan to have him as PM, he should have opted for Bollywood…..Pakistan would have been luckier without him….

  2. This man was above hollywood actors but unfortunately pakistani people are too impressed by these bollywood fake clowns with no personality, style or substance….whats there not to believe?
