Veteran actor Firdous Jamal was bashed for his comments about Mahira Khan not being able to act. Plenty of people rushed to his defense including actor Feroze Khan and then there were some who didn’t.

Turns out Veena Malik is also in Firdous Jamal’s corner in this ring.

When Firdous Sahib made some harsh comments about Mahira Khan’s acting and what roles she should play based on her age, the whole issue spiraled into an online campaign against the veteran actor.

Everyone from the entertainment industry was putting in their two cents. Veena Malik believes that  given the size of Pakistan’s struggling industry, people need to be open to critique.

“It’s too small an industry to get offended by criticism.”

Veena then breached the subject of free speech and how it doesn’t require political correctness.

“Wouldn’t their opinion have weight?”

She even called on the fraternity to evaluate if a person who was awarded the Pride of Performance; a person who has given 40 years to the country; a person who isn’t controversial and doesn’t make strange statements should be heard when they do make a statement.

“I don’t understand why, if a senior is saying something, the industry would start a campaign against him. This is painful.”

The actress said if people comment on her age, as they do on a daily basis on her page, it wouldn’t affect her. On the other hand, if she was told that she’s a terrible actor, she dubbed it an accusation that would matter to her.

Veena Malik does acknowledge the importance of taking criticism positively for self-growth.

“Everyone has their own way of looking at things, but she feels that the industry is still small so when you are criticized, you should listen to it, absorb it and improve yourself and only then can you be successful.”

She even urged for more unity in the fraternity rather than ganging up and running a campaign to cancel each other.

“If you’re calling someone bad, you’re calling yourself bad because we’re all one.”
