ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) of Islamabad has planned to host its own literature festival from March 17 to 19, 2023.
Chairman CDA, Captain Noor ul Amin Mengal, shared that the authority had decided to organize the event itself, rather than sponsor a private firm or forum.
A committee, comprising former Chairman Kamran Lashari, former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Fawad Hassan Fawad, Adeel Hashmi, and Member Environment CDA, has been established to oversee the festival.
The two potential venues are the Pak-China Friendship Centre and F-9 Park.
Focus on Sector Development
Mengal also revealed that CDA will focus on developing sectors, urging concerned parties to begin handing over possessions to allottees where development has been completed.
The possession of sector I-15 will be handed over this month, and sector E-12 will follow suit.
Additionally, a PC-I worth Rs10 billion has been prepared for multiple rural development projects, which will be funded by the auctioning of commercial plots.
The chairman added that a new model would be introduced to facilitate the private sector in running various public service projects on a lease basis.
Previously, CDA was unable to engage in joint venture projects, but changes to the authority’s act now allow for this.
Structural reforms will also see the creation of three independent agencies: the Solid Waste Management Agency, the Building Control Authority, and the Parks and Horticulture Authority.
CDA’s Revenue Stream
Mengal acknowledged that CDA’s revenue stream has been dependent on plot auctions. However, the creation of a dedicated post of member resources would explore other avenues to streamline the revenue section.
Furthermore, the chairman also expressed his commitment to enhancing Islamabad’s parks and mass transit system, including a promise to change the outlook of parks in the city.
CDA has already signed an agreement to operate buses on 17 feeder routes.
