PTA-logoA Lahore High Court Judge, Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, while hearing a Writ Petition that challenged the appointment of Chairman PTA, passed an interim order restraining PTA Chairman from discharging any function at PTA without the approval of two other members of the Authority.

Earlier in November, a petition filed by Khawaja Saad Saleem, challenging the appointment of Mr. Farooq Awan as Chairman PTA, was accepted by the high court for hearing.

The petitioner had plead that government did not fulfil the requirements for the appointment of chairman of PTA, as no ad was published in any publication for the mentioned post.

Petitioner further maintained that appointment of Farooq Awan as Chairman PTA seems on political basis, than of considering any merit. He requested Court to declare the appointment as null and void.

During today’s hearing, the judge issued orders restraining Chairman PTA from discharging any function in his office without the approval of two other members of the Authority.

There are certain powers at PTA which are taken by the Authority, i.e., majority of its three members and there are other administrative and operational powers that rest with the Chairman himself. LHC has restrained him to perform any function either of the Authority or at PTA till next hearing that is on 15 January 2013.
