In recent past, we have seen that telecom operators are inclining towards Solar Panels. We asked on the site supervisor about the reason behind this inclination, and he can provide us fuel consumption stats regarding this.
According to him, the cost of fuel is too much. In fact as high as 2,150 litters are being consumed by a single BTS if it runs whole month. Add the price of Diesel and you get the figure (Rs.120,000 – Rs.150,000).
Whereas the price of the solar panel starts from Rs.150,000 and its one time investment only. Of course this price may vary depending on the vendor.
If all the BTS shifts over to the solar charging, then when can also save the fuel imports.
Note: Someone recently stole solar panel from PTCL in Quetta. We have to deal with these technical thieves too.
I think its good improvment because solar energy is the hope energy for the future due to oil shortage specially in pakistan.
Solar panel theft is a growing worldwide phenomenon as they are still very expensive. It’s almost like putting a sheet of GOLD on your roof and they should be guarded as such.

Do you know that Telecom companies are already sick of Diesel and Patrol theft from their cell sites.. and the security guards are mostly involved in such thefts. and I think theft of diesel on regular basis is also not a small expense. One cell site have one generator with 1000 Liter diesel tank.
So in poor countries theft is very common. Otherwise in other countries, there are micro cell sites fixed on small roads on trees even but no body disturb them.
