Telenor Secures 1 Million MNP Customers

Telenor Pakistan has attracted one million customers through Mobile Number Portability (MNP), since the MNP service started back in March 2007, confirmed us sources at the company.

Having said this, Telenor has become the first operator in the country to achieve the landmark. Looks Telenor’s plan for relying on MNP went successful.

As per un-confirmed stats, from Pakistan MNP Database, a total of 2.4 million customers have availed the service till February 2010.

For last one year, as the tariffs had hit the bottom line, cellular companies heavily invested in MNP offerings. For this they are giving away huge incentives for customers of other networks to port-in. The war is still on – and may continue for another couple of quarters.

We were unable to get MNP subscriber stats for other companies.

Thanks to Ali for the tip!

    • i can not beleive my company switched to Telenor and we are going back to warid as not quality also billing is not fare futher rate are too high like call to Romanina from warid is 7.99 Rs/min and from telenor 17.98 Rs/min
Hundreds of more examples to follow
like call drop voice quality average data speed although it is EDGE

  • Well one million people can’t be wrong, so you two must be in a special voice of the competition camp :-)
Suck it up, and admit telenor does a better job at MNP

  • Cant beleive it:(
telenor voice & signal quality is very bad while warid & ufone giving more good packages & signals, specially warid network is best.

  • y wuld any1 wanna convert to the most pathetic and xpensive operator of PAKISTAN??????

BRO u sure??? ka’een aisa tau nai apnay galti say telenor say port-out karnay walay constumers ki ta’daad pata di hai :p

  • @Amir
What is the source of this information have u confirmed it from independent source (Telenor is also claiming that they are biggest roaming partner but which is wrong)

  • well im using telenor for the last five years.i got my connection on 24 march 2005.telenor launched on 23 march 2005 in lahore.telenor has biggest coverage a bit far from di khan only telenor is the operator wich is workin their.well telenor is giving lowest 30 sec rates 63 paisa,10 rupees main 250 sms in 15 days validity.
so my dea friend i think warid suck u know last month 2 million customer switched off from warid.warid is charging highest 30 sec rates.they r also over charging on glow package.im also using mobilink indigo both telenor and mobilink r the best

1 Mobilink GSM, GPRS, EDGE 31.06 [125] (January 2010) Orascom Telecom
2 Telenor GSM, GPRS, EDGE 22.64 [126] (January 2010) Telenor
3 Ufone GSM, GPRS, EDGE 18.57 [127] (January 2010) Etisalat
    4 Warid GSM, GPRS, EDGE 16.19 [128] (January 2010) Warid Telecom(70%) and SingTel(30%)
5 Zong GSM, GPRS, EDGE 6.93 [129] (January 2010) China Mobile

bro u know warid has 4 operations pakistan, bangladesh, uganda, congo bangladesh operation 70% stakes sold to airtel, congo unit sold to essar which is indian partner wid vodafone.
now warid pak 30% shares sold to singtel in 2006.guys warid dont have enough money to market their brand.from inside warid may merge with telenor, ufone coz according to pta report in 2010 only 4 opertors left in market.so……
if anyone wanna discuss with me.than welcome

  • dear hassan i know that warid hire atif as their brand ambassador but its too late for warid.they also take reema as their brand ambassadar well if u wanna confirm the above customer base than check this link
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mobile_network_operators_of_the_Asia_Pacific_region#Pakistan

and check on the pta site that only 4 operator left in pak market at the end of 2010.so warid is the only operator whose stake holder r not interested to invest more otherwise telenor is working with 100 shares mobilink is working with 100% with orascom telecom.zong is working with 100 shares of china mobile.warid jus sold 30% after 1 yera of their launch in pakistan.why they do his at that time coz thay dont have enough funds and marketing team to take over the market.

  • yes i m also using telenor since october 2005, and i have no complain with telenor services, telenor call rates and sms rates are also low,
Warid k to signals hi nahi atay call kya khak hogi poorest signals hotay hain aam dino mai hi or agar koi tehwar like new year ya eid hoti hai to na call milti hai na hi sms sent hote hain

    • is there a reason that your second sentence could not have been written in english as well.

Stop creating a bastard version of urdu and english

  • OMG! i cant believe tht v all r fightin over networks :p
    b a PAKISTANI n use UFONE
    PAKISTAN ZINDABAD, UFONE ZINDABAD :D

  • well said javeria and mr mohjammad ufone is very good but bro they r still chargin highest rate in 30 sec billing and their sms packaged always puzzled me.wel i ported my number from ufone to mobilink indigo coz its quite suitable than ufone.

    • Taimoor bro. mobilink ka sirf coverage acha hai but u knw it isthe most xpensive network of pakistan. apko rs5000 mai sirf free sms, data, free minutes to other network milay ga indigo may. jubkay ufone postpay is offerin all tht except 4 data starting from jus rs 50.
NOW!! u tell me bro isnt PK-UFONE the cheapest postpay/prepay network???
      YET
these r the things i hate bt ufone myself:
      1. 0.12p charge on balance inquiry(Warid being the only network not charging on balance check through short code).

      2. You have to wait 24hrs for the activation of gprs/mms for the 1st time

3.When you suscribe to any sms bundles you have to wait for an hour *sometimes more than an hour* to get confirmation message or if you want to get info about remaning sms.

  • well mr mohammad ur rite but i tell u now am using ufone for the last 1 year but now im on mobilink why

1.i jus pay 100 rupess and got 100 free minutes and am also availing icall and i sms in wich i have to pay 200 per month and i got 1000 free mins and 50 rs main 500 sms.well in prepay ufone call chargin is high but sms packages r good.in postpay ufone is also good but now mobilnk is coming back in the market with some useful packages

i know u postpay is cheap but now indigo is also goin good.i agree with some of ur points boy

    • yea u pay 100rs to get 100 free minutes only on mobilink. rite? and u pay 200rs xtra again for free minutes to mobilink plus free sms on-net and off-net. i dun get it how is it better? for 300rs u can get all tht 4m ufone plus u get free mins for off-net too. bro! its upto u whtever suites u the best. buh my advice is tht u change back to ufone pre/post-pay.
*MOBILINK OFFERS ARE MOSTLY FOR LIMITED TIME PERIOD i.e (i.call,i.sms)*

  • ab dekho ka jitni jaldi inho na 1 million customer hasill kia hain us sa ziyada jaldi ye loose ker dain ga becoz of imposing 10 paisa tax on off net sms
and by spiliting sms bonus pakages in off net and on net
