Bangladesh has blocked access to Facebook after drawing competition of the prophet Muhammad [PBUH] and the country’s leaders were uploaded, reported BBC.
Officials said the ban was temporary and access to the site would be restored once the images were removed.
A spokesman for the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) told AFP Facebook had “hurt the religious sentiments of the country’s majority Muslim population” by carrying “offensive images” of Prophet Mohammed [PBUH].
“Facebook will be re-opened once we erase the pages that contain the obnoxious images,” said Mr Delwar.
Most Muslims consider representations of the Prophet Muhammad to be blasphemous.
Thousands of people joined anti-Facebook protests in Bangladesh on Friday demanding the site be blocked over the contest.

Is this ban because of the Prophet’s distorted images or because of the country leaders’? Bangladesh needs to be clear if the decision is religiously motivated or politically driven!
It’s not only because of Prophet Mohammed but also because of “obnoxious images of current “”Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the leader of the opposition”” they banned facebook….what a shame.

I think Bangladesh banned Facebook only for obnoxious images of current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the leader of the opposition and not because of religious matters because Saudi Arabia is the largest Muslim country and this country itself didn’t ban Facebook!
